Yang Tai Chi, The Four Directions with Guy Forsyth

This is a good introduction to Tai Chi, the well known but often misunderstood practice. We will stand, open our joints, and explore finding strength through relaxation in movement, using the principles put forth by Yang Chengfu. Although Tai Chi Quan is a martial art, my focus here is on the internal structure, as the maximum health and energetic benefit comes from correct training.  No experience is required, flat shoes or barefoot.

The Healing Power of Forgiveness with Max Strom

Forgiveness is perhaps the most powerful tool we have for healing ourselves. To forgive another, heals oneself, just as anger toward another poisons oneself. Anger and resentment destroy our lives. For the body to heal, often times what is most vital is to heal the broken heart or spirit. Failure to forgive affects our stress level, power to heal the body, discernment, and all our relationships. The first part of this seminar is a powerful lecture on forgiving others, the second part will address forgiving oneself, and the third part include gentle yoga movement, breathing exercises, and guided meditation with emphasis on emotional transformation. Appropriate for all levels.

We will explore universal principles of alignment and myofacial lines of the body, and how they teach us to practice with truth and integrity. When we realize that principles applied on the mat create freedom in the art of movement, then we are ready to explore how principles applied off the mat create freedom in the art of living.

Core Strengthening: asana, bandhas, pranayama…with David Moreno

In the yogic view, abdominal conditioning and strength are encouraged for their aid in digestion, assimilation, and elimination on all levels of being and for the way this area, once toned, supports proper meditation positions. Many of the exercises found in Pilates have their origin in yoga asana. However, for the most part, muscle groups go unacknowledged in yogic text and schools because the principle focus is energetic awareness and self-realization over a fab “six pack.” Good for strengthening lower back and toning organs.

Deep within everyone there is an abiding faith in a Supreme Being, someone to whom one can look up to for help and guidance, for protection and inspiration. But the ego does not allow this to happen. Disentanglement from the ego alone can lead to release from the snares of life. Raja Yoga is the king of Yogas. It concerns directly with the mind. In this Yoga there is no struggling with the physical body, it is through the study of the Yoga Sutra’s that we cultivate good relationships, compassion for others, and a deep sense of selflessness that brings fulfillment and joy.

Deep Flow: Lateral Sequence with David Moreno

An immensely engaging yoga practice that moves at a steady pace, allowing for a progression into an interior landscape of sensation, pulsation, and inner rhythm. It challenges practitioners to go beyond mindless and automatic yoga practices in order to experience the subtle levels of prana shakti – the life force. Throughout students are encouraged to take as much time as their body requires when transitioning from one pose to the next, as these postures continue to generate profound unfolding, liberating internal movement and sensation beyond the pose itself. Students are encouraged to indulge themselves in deep states of awareness, experiencing poses as streams of flowing consciousness with an intelligence of their own.

The Future Sound of Yoga with Angel and Matt Singmin

The Future Sound of Yoga is a sensory experience involving music and movement. The movements are a combination of traditional yoga poses and freeform dance. Angel guides the yoga while Matt Singmin DJ’s and creates the soundtrack. The music is drawn from electronic dance music, atmospheric band/artist albums, classical music and film soundtracks. Examples include artists like Massive Attack, Aphex Twin, Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Zero 7, Bjork, Trentemoller, Sigur Ros, Hot Chip, The XX, Goldie, Paul Kalkbrenner, Feist; film soundtracks like Blade Runner, Once, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and classical music like Philip Glass, Debussy, Satie and Beethoven. Rather than strict instruction or striving to achieve complex yoga poses, it is more about switching off the mind, connecting with the body and letting go. The yoga unlocks the body; the music energises the room and brings the focus into the present. The experience evolves over two hours. The class starts lying down, just breathing and listening. There follows a series of moves to activate the body, before flowing standing sequences to work the body. The session peaks with 15 minutes of dance, before winding down with some gentle poses and meditation.
